Incarnation School opened on September 12, 1910. Our first staff was comprised of two Sisters of Charity from Mount Saint Vincent, Sister M. Auxilium, Principal and Second Grade Teacher, and Sister Mercedes, First Grade Teacher.

The school enrolled 103 children in its first year of operation, but this number quickly grew, almost doubling by 1912. Attendant upon the opening of the school was the founding of the Saint Aloysius Society for Boys and the Angels Society for Girls under the direction of Sister Auxilium.  

Today, Incarnation Schol students and staff benefit from a recent school-wide expansion of technological resources.  In the classroom, teacher’s project internet based lessons onto large touch sensitive screens.  Our students have access to laptops, a number of educational software titles and wireless internet.  

Incarnation School strives to create a joyous, faith-filled environment that affirms the uniqueness of each child and academically and spiritually prepares students to walk in God’s grace with confidence and resilience.

Incarnation School, located in Washington Heights in the Archdiocese of New York, is dedicated to the education of every child in its care. The administration, faculty, and staff of Incarnation School undertake this responsibility within the context of Catholic tradition and doctrine. We affirm the uniqueness of each child and concentrate on the intellectual, spiritual, moral, esthetic, social and physical growth of each student. We strive to provide a climate in which each student will feel safe and will mature as a thinking, ethical person, sensitive to the needs of others.

Through the teaching of Catholic doctrine and values, we affirm our faith by providing opportunities for spiritual growth and a deepening of religious convictions. It is our belief that an emphasis on religious education and a strong academic program will lead to the growth of healthy, well-rounded individuals with a sense of physical, emotional and social well-being who will become useful, happy and productive members of society.

We provide a variety of learning opportunities in order to address the different learning styles and needs of our students. We advocate the laying of a foundation based on concrete experience and practical application, leading to the development of higher, more sophisticated, more abstract levels of thinking and problem solving. We offer enrichment and extra-curricular activities in order to help the students cultivate appropriate social skills and to instill in them a sensitivity to the world around them.

It is important that the community of parents, administration, teachers, staff and religious leaders of Incarnation School accept the school philosophy and work together in order to fully realize the goals of our school. As we move forward, we continue to encourage a mutual respect among all adults and children, working toward the same goals and values, strong in our faith and our commitment to the community of Incarnation School.
