At Incarnation School, we believe that strong literacy skills are the foundation of lifelong learning. Our approach to reading and writing ensures that students develop confidence, fluency, and a love of literature from an early age.
To build a strong foundation in reading, our early elementary students engage in the Fundations phonics program. This research-based program provides a structured, multi-sensory approach to phonemic awareness, phonics, spelling, and handwriting. Through engaging activities, hands-on learning, and direct instruction, students develop essential decoding and comprehension skills that set them up for success in reading and writing.
Fundations is implemented in grades K-2 and serves as a cornerstone of our literacy instruction. With explicit, systematic lessons, students strengthen their understanding of letter-sound relationships, high-frequency words, and fluency—empowering them to become confident, capable readers.
Beyond foundational skills, we cultivate a love of reading through our school library, a vibrant space filled with diverse books that inspire curiosity and imagination. The Incarnation Library features a collection of over 2,000 books, enriched annually through the dedicated efforts of Juliette, Louis, and Edouard Freidheim. Their support in sourcing and furnishing second-hand school books has been instrumental in building this valuable resource.
